In a a relationship where sex is involved with a person who is infected with the virus, the risk of getting herpes will always be there. Many people have sex for years without transmitting the HSV virus just by being very careful there is a possibility of an outbreak occurring. Genital Herpes plays a role in the distributing of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Because herpes can cause open sores on the genitals, it also increases the risk of contracting the HIV virus. Herpes can make more open to HIV infection, and it can make HIV-infected people more communicable.

Herpes is not all terrible, indeed 90% of herpes sufferers don't even know that they have it.

An increasing proportion of genital herpes outbreaks are due to herpes simplex Type 1 (cold sores) that can be transmitted via oral sex. Herpes is perhaps the most common sexually transmitted disease in the world today.

Genital herpes is generally, but not always, transmitted by oral sex. Genital herpes and cold sores extremely infectious when an infected person has observable blisters or sores.
